5E moved furniture out and new furniture in yesterday. The children enjoyed reorganizing their new classroom and 5A will do theirs on Wednesday. It will provide a completely different way of working with less desks and both the children and the staff will reflect on how well it is working at regular intervals. For children to learn well, they must be comfortable in their environment and this is what the 5A and 5E staff and children are hoping to achieve.
Today the children discussed what a creative learning environment could be like. They worked in groups or pairs to create a vision of how they would like the classroom to look. First they recorded all their ideas and then they shared them with another group. The children decided to choose their two favourite ideas from another group and these were written on post-its and stuck on our ideas board. The next stage will be discussing as a class before presenting our ideas to Miss Tania. They were some great ideas and the children really thought outside the box but I think the idea of a Jacuzzi in class, while lovely, may not be agreed to!!
The children in 5A and 5E decided they would like to have some cushions in class to sit on rather than always being at a desk and because we live in the UAE, their choice was to have Arabic Cushions in style and design. We were lucky enough to buy some from a lady in Ras al Khaimah and the children helped to carry them up to their classrooms. Now they have to decide how we should use them. These are the 5A & 5E classrooms at the beginning of Term 2. Both have wall space for student learning, desks organised in groups for group work and some carpet space for children to share and work. Both classrooms have fixed teacher stations and desks, and both have an interactive whiteboard in the middle of the front wall.
