The Year 3's were excited to visit the Sharjah Maritime Museum and Sharjah Aquarium last Tuesday! We were fascinated by the boats and ships that the explorers traveled on during their sea expeditions. We learnt numerous ways of navigating on the water. In the aquarium, we were mesmerized by the sea world. Just to name a few, we spotted the guitar fish, the seahorse, the catfish and many more. We even saw a scuba diver cleaning the pool and swimming among the fish! As we journeyed with the explorers, we also learnt the features of the world maps. There are many different kinds of maps and the key help us read and understand the symbols on the maps.
In groups, we compared and contrasted the continents with the maps in the atlas. What is your favourite mode of transport for your journey? We have discovered many different ways that we could travel from one place to another with a purpose. Through our discussions and learning experiences, we explored how journeys could lead to new experiences and opportunities. Memorabilia were brought from home to share our experiences with the class. In our classrooms, we have been exploring how Journeys can lead to new experiences and opportunities.
We began by looking at our personal journeys and continued to explore other historical journeys that have taken place. Going on scavenger hunts, mapping the journeys of Nemo from Finding Nemo, Max from Where the Wild Things Are and Black Beard the Pirate, and looking at geographical places on the maps are some of our learning journeys. How many famous explorers do you know? We are learning about Ibn Battuta, Ahmed Bin Majid, Neil Armstrong and many more history makers who had contributed to the world through their journeys.
