During our current unit "We explore using our senses", we have introduced the children to lots of different language. This has included the names of the parts of the body associated with the senses as well as the 5 senses themselves. We have also introduced new language to the children to help them describe what they have seen, heard, smelt, tasted and felt. Of course language is not just limited to words, facial expressions can say so much too!
We have been using these books to support our unit "We explore using our senses". The stories use the words seeing and hearing, as well as being interactive. We can ask the children what the animals saw and make the sounds of what they heard.
They are great books to share with your children at home and are available to borrow from our school library. We have now started our new unit. It is part of the trans-disciplinary theme "Who we are". Our central idea is "We explore using our senses". As an introduction into this idea, the children took part in a senses walk. Using all their senses, they explored the school environment and using language were able to say what they could see, hear, smell, touch and taste. Language in the classroomChildren in Pre K are encouraged to explore, learn and speak in English. It is important that children are given as much opportunity to do this in their classrooms every day. The different activities that the children do help them achieve this. Over the last few weeks we have be talking about the routines we do every day. Role play activtities are a good way to help children develop language. Pre K C are enjoying their snack and Pre K A going to bed. Working together to paint a bus like Pre K B is also a good way to develop language.
Week beginning 18.10.15. This week during our assembly we all enjoyed listening to a new story called Shadow by Robie H. Harris. It was a good book to listen to because we have been learning about shadows as part of our unit this week. We borrowed this book from our library. Don't forget you are also welcome to visit our library with your child and borrow a book from there too. Just tell Mrs Anisha your child's name and which class they are in.
