Year 1 swimming is well underway. Currently we have two Year 1 classes swimming – 1C and 1D and all of the children are thoroughly enjoying the swimming sessions. They have been learning how to float on their front and kick in the water. They have also been practicing how to float on their back with noodles and boards. Their favourite activity in the pool is treasure hunt, during which the children practice putting their faces in the water and holding their breath while they are looking for treasure at the bottom of the pool.
The Year 2 classes have taken to swimming like fish to the water. All children in year two are keen swimmers and are enjoying their lessons. It is such a pleasure to see how children’s confidence is growing lesson after lesson. We can see all children progressing nicely, with some learning how to float and kick and others practicing their strokes in the big pool. In the world we live in there are many influences that are seemingly pitted against keeping us fit, healthy, spritely and energetic. Some of these include processed food, lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyles and an over-reliance on technology for mental stimulation. For this reason we all need little reminders to guide us into making healthy life choices. The children at RAK Academy are our future, and it is our job to encourage them to make these choices. When we all work together as a community to instil these healthy habits in them, then we increase our effectiveness in doing just that.
The PE team have been talking at length to the children about making healthy choices in life. Please support us by encouraging them to take seriously what we are telling them. Some of the messages we are conveying include:
Years 3 to 6 started the year off tuning in to fitness and finding out more about ways we can keep our bodies fit and healthy through physical exercise. The students spent time sorting out what they already knew about fitness and went further by creating and planning their own, unique exercises. In groups, the students explored fitness equipment, investigating its use, its importance, and its function. They took action by sharing their new exercises and practicing them in class. Well done, Years 3 to 6! We hope you keep practicing these amazing new workouts!! Check out our photos below. |
