Their parents were truly impressed by the knowledge of notation, music theory and instruments of the orchestra by their children, and were amazed by rhythmical patterns the children played for them on the djembe and the electronic drums, as well as melodic movement on the xylophones, boomwhackers and the bells. It was such a pleasure seeing the parents joining in, curiously jamming with their kids.
Families also watched videos of body percussion and scarf dance routines of my Year 3 classes that I recorded during the lessons, so they could see positive, fun and engaging learning atmosphere. The singing was the best part, when parents joined in with the “Bare Necessities” and I could still hear them humming after they left, in the hallway.
