It was a busy week at RAKA PYP last week. Our Year 6 students really got to grips with their vision for their Exhibition, met with their mentors and started creating questions and researching using our school library, media centre and computer labs.
Most groups have decided on a way they would like to inspire the community during their Exhibition and are well on there way to showing off their passions to the school and wider community! Here we go... Exhibition week 1! Year 6 has hit the ground running in term 3 beginning their inquiry for Exhibition 2016! Before the spring vacation the students had the opportunity to interview some guest speakers about their personal passions and how they came across these skills. We would like to say a BIG thank you to all of our wonderful guest speakers for taking the time to come and talk and perform to us and share their wonderful talents. After this, the students thought carefully about what they are passionate about and reflected on this in class. We discovered that there are many hidden talents and passions in Year 6 including inventing, photography, horse riding, piano and science! We found that many of us share the same passions so we have combined classes to make our super Exhibition groups! In week 1 the students had the opportunity to get to know their Exhibition group better by doing some team building games together. This helped the students develop their communication and thinking skills and helped them develop their team work. We also spent time unpicking the Central idea. We analysed what each word means and rewrote the central idea using vocabulary that we all fully understand. We then inquired into our personal journey involving our passion. What inspired us to ignite interest in our passions? The students reflected on this and made their own personal passion maps and this helped them see who had been the biggest influences in their life. We also spent some time this week inquiring into how we can inspire people in our community regarding our personal passions. Some groups have decided to run after school and lunchtime clubs for younger children in the school. Some groups have decided to make videos to share with friend and family. They will be working on their action ideas with their mentors in the following weeks and reflecting on the process every week. Stay tuned for Week 2! Exhibition Research Plan:
